Day 107 … NYE at Joshua Tree

The wind has died down a bit today. Matt, Jay and I went out to explore some of the park. Our first stop was at the Hall of Horrors where a large crack in the rock offers some ideal climbing. We explored each of the four patches of nearby rocks for bouldering opportunities. The rocks at Joshua Tree National Park are great for climbing because their naturally coarse texture creates extra friction.

For lunch, we drove to the nearby town of Twentynine Palms. Here, we were able to get a bite to eat and stop at the grocery store. Being New Year’s Eve, the store was packed with people looking to pick up some last minute goodies. Back at the campsite, we opened up a bottle of champagne to ring in the new year. With the cold setting in fast, we ended up going to bed around 10PM and missing the countdown. Here’s to a warmer new year!
